Legal notice discussed by author concerning Prince Harry's actions regarding Meghan Markle
In a recent turn of events, a dispute between Prince Harry and author Andrew Lownie has arisen over claims made in Lownie's book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. The book, which primarily focuses on the Royal Family, has stirred controversy due to its portrayal of a physical altercation between Prince Harry and Prince Andrew in 2013, and allegations of defamatory comments about Meghan Markle, Harry's wife.
The book, which was initially considered a passing moment by Lownie and others, was expanded upon after he was asked about his relationship with Prince Harry by the book's publisher. According to the book, the dispute between the two royals occurred during a family gathering, with Harry allegedly punching Andrew, giving him a bloody nose. Andrew is also said to have made disparaging remarks about Meghan Markle, expressing doubts about the longevity of Harry's marriage to her.
Prince Harry's team publicly denied these claims, stating that no physical fight ever occurred and that Andrew never made those comments about Meghan. In response, Harry's legal team has sent a letter to the Daily Mail (which serialized excerpts from the book) over what they consider inaccurate and defamatory statements.
Andrew Lownie, however, stands by his source for the story, a reliable royal household employee. He expressed surprise that Harry targeted only the newspaper rather than Lownie's publishers or the author himself. Lownie regards Harry's legal response as an intimidation tactic that has nonetheless boosted his book's profile.
In a recent interview, Lownie clarified that he did not intend to cause offense with the disputed information. He believes the information in his book presents Harry in a positive light, particularly in the context of Harry defending his wife's honor.
It is worth noting that the book does not feature Prince Harry extensively. However, the contentious information in the book involves two altercations between Andrew Lownie and Prince Harry, the first occurring in 2013 and the second in 2017.
In a move to address the allegations, Lownie recorded a line for the audiobook version of his book, stating that Harry denies the allegations made about him. He has also maintained that the information in his book does not defame Prince Harry.
The dispute between Lownie and Prince Harry continues, with the author believing that his book offers a balanced portrayal of the Royal Family, while Prince Harry's team continues to firmly deny the allegations made against him.
