Lega VdA's figure, Bernardi, has been labeled as "unsuitable" by the Antimafia regionally.

In the lead-up to the regional elections in Valle d'Aosta and the Marche, an Anti-Mafia Commission has targeted three candidates, raising questions about their suitability for public office. Among these candidates is Paolo Bernardi, a contender for the Lega in Valle d'Aosta, who is also one of the candidates found to be in violation of the code of self-regulation. Paolo Bernardi is currently facing trial for fraudulent bankruptcy in the Varese Tribunal, with the next hearing scheduled for January 13, 2026. However, his trial is not currently underway in the Aosta Tribunal, contrary to some reports. The allegations against Paolo Bernardi are not related to his ongoing trial for fraudulent bankruptcy, but rather stem from a dispute over 200 euros for family assistance. Paolo Bernardi has claimed that these allegations are related to this dispute, which is nearing prescription. Paolo Bernardi has also stated that his criminal record is clean. The Lega VdA has conducted all possible checks on Paolo Bernardi, and while he is not disqualified, he has been deemed 'unsuitable' by a commission, according to the Lega VdA's response. In the Marche, Jessica Marcozzi, a candidate for the Forza Italia list, and Armando Bruni, a candidate for the civic list Libertas Unione di centro, are also facing accusations of fraudulent bankruptcy. Both of their trials are currently underway in the Fermo Tribunal, with the next hearings set for October 29, 2025, for Armando Bruni, and January 14, 2026, for Jessica Marcozzi. Like Paolo Bernardi, the status of these trials is not publicly available. These developments have sparked a debate about the suitability of these candidates to hold public office, with some calling for stricter regulations and transparency in election processes. The regional elections in Valle d'Aosta and the Marche are scheduled for later this year, adding a sense of urgency to these discussions.
