Feine Sahne Fischfilet Frontman Speaks Against Labels, Sheds Light on Political Shift

Jan "Monchi" Gorkow, the vocalist of the German punk band Feine Sahne Fischfilet, has expressed his evolving viewpoints on left-wing politics and right-wing extremism. In an interview, Gorkow shared his opinions on the restrictive nature of political labels, hinting at a potential shift towards a more humanistic stance.

Gorkow's band, known for its politically charged music, has been a notable voice in Germany's fight against right-wing extremism. The group's lyrics often tackle social issues and critique societal norms, aligning with anti-right-wing sentiments. Gorkow's personal shift towards a humanistic perspective may signal a move away from strict political allegiances.

In the interview, Gorkow stated that he no longer associates himself with the left scene. "I never felt addressed by the left," he said, criticizing the elevated, overly nice, and politically correct nature of traditional left-wing circles.

Gorkow's band, Feine Sahne Fischfilet, has been subjected to attacks from the right and classified as left-wing extremist in several constitutional protection reports from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a classification the musicians have contested legally.

Addressing the electoral successes of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), Gorkow expressed dismay at the party's nationalist rhetoric. In his hometown of Jarmen, the AfD received 54 percent of the second votes, a fact that left him puzzled. "I understand people may feel alienated by democratic parties, but I can't stand these national complainers," he stated.

Gorkow argued that urban residents, who often confront right-wing extremism, may misunderstand his views. "People from Kreuzberg shout out slogans without even understanding what right-wing extremism is," he remarked, expressing frustration with being used as a projection surface for right-wing extremist views.
