Say goodbye to the old guard of Saxon Left, as Anja Eichhorn and Marco Böhme swoop in to take the reins! These two were elected as chairpersons of the state association at the party conference in Leipzig, ousting Susanne Schaper and Stefan Hartmann who had been in the position for six tumultuous years.

Eichhorn, a former deputy chairperson with roots in Zwickau, hails from the city and regional planning sector. Böhme, a long-standing member of the Saxon state parliament (for a decade!), comes from Leipzig. Running together as a team, Eichhorn and Böhme triumphed against their opponents, Marika Tändler-Walenta and Silvio Lang, in the election for double leadership.

Looking back on their tenure, Schaper and Hartmann acknowledged it hadn’t been a walk in the park. The pandemic, the onset of the Ukraine war, and the secession of the BSW from the Left were hardly picnics. However, despite these challenges, the outgoing leaders remain optimistic about the future, with their successors now tasked with building on their success. In their eyes, the new leadership duo needs to focus on the structural and content-related renovation of the state association and the federal party.

Under Hartmann and Schaper, the number of members in the state association swelled by over 11,000. This surpassed the CDU by an impressive margin of around 9,500 members even before the federal election in February. Currently, the Left stands as the party with the most members in Saxony.

Yet, sources remain silent regarding the specifics of Eichhorn and Böhme's new roles within the Saxon Left. The identity of their successors might still be a mystery, but one thing's for sure—our curiosity is piqued!
