A Ruckus in St. Pauli Over Fraternity Tensions!

Hamburg – A Chaotic Scene due to a Fraternity Party!

Hamburg witnessed a major police operation in St. Pauli, all due to a fraternity event. The controversial "Norddeutsche Heimatabend" of the extreme right-wing "Hamburger Burschenschaft Germania" had turned unruly.

Midnight at the infamous "Elbschlosskeller" on Hamburger Berg, ten members of the fraternity faced allegations of provoking visitors with their right-wing attitudes in a left-leaning neighborhood. Cue the chaos! Surrounded by up to 100 St. Pauli hooligans, left-wing activists, and Kiez visitors, shoving ensued, along with flying fists and cries of "Nazis out!".

Massive Police Presence:

The scene called for a swift response. Some 70 officers flooded the area, backed by crew members from 24 patrol cars and riot police dressed to disperse the rowdy scene.

But the night didn't end well for the fraternity members. Eighteen were detained, with two men (42, 45) engaging in acts of resistance and attacking officers. Their beer nights were now on temporary hold.

The Intimidating Elbschlosskeller:

Deemed one of Germany's toughest pubs, the Elbschlosskeller is famous for its lax admission policy, extending welcome to distracted Golden Glove patrons and even housing the homeless for days. Operator Daniel Schmidt (39) embodies its spirit, "You have to earn a ban from me!"

The "Hamburger Burschenschaft Germania," founded in 1919, is known for its association with right-wing radicalism and controversial activities. Nazi-linked and repeatedly condemned, they have long had a troubled relationship with residents and residents' protests [1].

Disturbances continued even after their 2021 move to Marienthal, culminating in this recent confrontation in the Reeperbahn neighborhood.

[1] Enrichment Data: The fraternity, along with its extreme right-wing ideologies and radical activities, always faces backlash from left-wing activists. This disruptive behavior has gained notoriety for the group and placed them under constant scrutiny by authorities. Their activities primarily involve organizing events hosted within public spaces, such as the annual "Norddeutscher Heimatabend" and regularly operating within student dorms. Through continual network synthesis and lifelong membership, older members exert undue influence over younger students and, in turn, place them in powerful positions in politics and industry. Despite their relocation to Marienthal, these issues followed them, eventually culminating in their latest controversial episode.
