In the heart of Berlin, a contentious pro-Palestinian solidarity event is set to take place on Saturday in the neighbourhood of Berlin-Neukölln. The event, organised by The Left party, has sparked criticism from various quarters due to its association with the United Palestinian National Committee (UPNC).

The UPNC, an umbrella organisation noted in the Berlin constitutional protection report, has been a subject of debate due to its alleged ties with terrorist organisations such as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Hamas. However, it's important to note that no publicly available credible evidence links the UPNC to terrorist organisations or antisemitic propaganda.

Felix Klein, the federal government's commissioner for combating antisemitism, has expressed his concern over the event, stating that anyone who fails to clearly distance themselves from the terrorist organisation Hamas is unbelievable in his eyes. He finds the event scandalous due to its cooperation with the UPNC, which has been mobilising for public gatherings related to the Middle East conflict since the terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel.

The motto of the event, "Neukölln stands together - Solidarity with the people of Palestine," reflects the intention of the organisers to show support for the Palestinian population, particularly those suffering in Gaza. However, the event's association with the UPNC has led to a wave of criticism, with concerns about potential antisemitic or anti-Israeli propaganda.

The originally planned venues for the solidarity event in Berlin have been cancelled, leading to the event's relocation to Berlin-Neukölln. Despite the controversies, the event is set to proceed as planned, raising questions about the extent of cooperation between The Left party and the UPNC, and the implications for the city's political landscape.
