Left ankle sprain suffered by Masyn Winn, St. Louis Cardinals' prospect.

young gun Masyn Winn, St. Louis Cardinals' star shortstop, might be sidelined once more. After twisting his left ankle trippin' round third base in a recent game against the New York Mets, Winn's now battlin' with an injury that could land him on the injured list again.

Leavin' early on May 4, this injury comes just a month after Winn recovered from a spell of backaches. As a result, the Cards' rookie could be out of action for a while.

Winn's departure was sudden but he managed to score and play defense in the following inning before bein' pulled before the fifth.

If Winn does get placed on the IL, it'll mark his second time missin' significant time this season. He first sat out in April due to lingering back issues, which was unfortunate 'cause his bat was heatin' up. Nolan Gorman stepped up to take Winn's spot then.

Winn reckons his back troubles were caused by the cold temperatures early in the year, mentionin', "Pitchers have the advantage when it's cold 'cause hitters suck, but we gotta keep fightin'. But warm weather, that's where I shine."

He was back in action ten days later, yet outfielder Michael Siani was sent down to Triple-A Memphis instead. Since his return on April 22, Winn's been on fire at the plate slashin' .333/.390/.611 and knockin' in five runs.

The Cards have a duo of backup shortstop options ready to step in: Brendan Donovan and Jose Barrero. Barrero was just recalled, and he's likely to get most of the play at short for the time being. If the Cards bring up Thomas Saggese, he's another possibility to fill in for Winn.

Saggese has puttin' up solid numbers too, battin' .341 with a couple homers in his 14 games in the majors this year. His defense might need a bit of polish, but he's starting to get the hang of things.

Winn's injury'll no doubt set him and the Cards back a tad. His defense has been solid this season, and his bat was pickin' up the pace after a chilly start.

In light of his injury, Masyn Winn might be forced to miss more MLB games, as he was earlier sidelined due to backaches. This potential second stint on the injured list could affect the St. Louis Cardinals' baseball squad, particularly their defense and offensive production at shortstop.
