Prominent Scholar Karim Emile Bitar to Deliver Lecture on Middle Eastern Politics

Acclaimed scholar Karim Emile Bitar will be delivering a lecture titled "The Fateful Quadrangle: Lebanon, Syria, Hezbollah, and Israel, from 1982 to the Post-October 7 Era" at Sciences Po Paris on March 20, 2025. Bitar, a specialist in the Middle East and U.S. foreign policy, is a Professor of International Relations and was the Former Director of the Institute of Political Science at the Saint Joseph University of Beirut. He is also affiliated with the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), the Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques (IRIS, Paris), and the Middle East Institute (MEI, Washington DC).

In addition to his academic roles, Bitar is the co-founder and president of Kulluna Irada, a civic association advocating for political reform in Lebanon. He is also the vice-president of the Circle of Arab Economists.

Throughout his career, Bitar has authored and co-authored several publications, including Regards sur la France (with Robert Fadel, Seuil Editions, 2007) and Le Cèdre et le Chêne: De Gaulle et le Liban (with Clotilde de Fouchécour, Geuthner Editions, 2015). He was for many years the editor-in-chief of L'ENA hors les murs, the monthly magazine of the alumni of the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA).
