Footage surfaces online, claiming depiction of a woman carrying an infant collapsing in the midst of an Israel attack in Gaza. However, this video turned out to be a fabricated incident.

Lebanon incident of 2020, not a military engagement in Gaza: Recent violence occurred in Lebanon, not Israel.

Let's clarify that viral social media post

Listen up, folks! A video floating around social media platforms is causing quite a stir, with claims it's showing a recent execution of a woman and her baby in Gaza, carried out by the Israeli Army. Nope, it's not true. Let me break it down for ya.

Here's the deal: This clip, roughly 23 seconds long, shows a person holding a baby while collapsing. The message accompanying it read something about the Israeli Army executing civilians and shooting mothers in cold blood in Gaza.

But wait, let me knock some sense into y'all. This video ain't depicting current events in Gaza, it's replaying an episode from Beirut's past. Back in 2020, drug traffickers shot it out in a refugee camp, and our heroine, Wouroud Kanju, was caught in the crossfire. The ranaculous video was first shared on platform X, and folks have been sharing it like crazy since June 1st.

A search on France 24's verification team discovered that the footage was captured on CCTV in the Shatila refugee camp in Beirut, Lebanon, on June 1, 2020. Remember that name, Shatila, it's got a bit of a gory history. Established in 1949, the International Committee of the Red Cross set it up. But, during the Lebanese Civil War in 1982, the camp suffered a massacre. Shatila's story is grim and intense, and it's still home to over 10,000 Palestinians.

The war in Gaza has been going on for a while now, more like twenty months. Misinformation about the conflict has been swirling like a nasty rumor. Some folks peddled false stories like China sending humanitarian aid by plane, weeping news anchors mourning over a child's death, etc. When the war hit the one-year mark, we compiled videos of attacks on civilians, journalists, and UNRWA schools. But this viral video ain't one of them. So, before you believe every video and story you come across, take a minute, do a fact check, and spread the truth instead of falsehoods.

The viral social media post, initially misleading people as a depiction of a recent execution of a woman and her baby by the Israeli Army in Gaza, was actually a clip from a 2020 incident in Beirut's Shatila refugee camp, where drug traffickers clashed, causing casualties. Conflicting narratives about the ongoing Gaza conflict have created a wave of misinformation, among which this video was mistakenly included.
