Lebanese Man Indicted for Hezbollah Ties and EU Embargo Violations
A Lebanese national, Fadel Z., has been provisionally arrested and is now facing serious charges. The Federal Prosecutor's Office has indicted him for his alleged involvement with Hezbollah and violations of EU embargoes.
Fadel Z. has been in custody since July 15, 2024, following his provisional arrest on July 14, 2024. The indictment, filed on September 2, 2025, details his suspected activities with Hezbollah, a militant Islamic organization aiming to liberate Lebanon and destroy Israel. With an estimated 20,000 trained fighters and an extensive drone program, Hezbollah has been a significant player in the region's politics and conflicts.
Investigations reveal that Fadel Z. joined Hezbollah before 2015 and has been working for the organization's drone program since at least August 2022. He is accused of procuring drone components worth around €1.4 million from various countries, using shell and mailbox companies to facilitate payments. Two motors supplied by him were used in explosive drones fired at Israel, one of which targeted a retirement home in Herzliya on Yom Kippur, October 11, 2024. Additionally, he is suspected of aiding and abetting attempted murder in one case.
Fadel Z. is suspected of membership in a foreign terrorist organization and violating EU embargoes in 47 cases. The indictment alleges that he ordered illegal drone parts in Italy and the Netherlands during his activities for Hezbollah between summer 2023 and his arrest in Germany in July 2024. His trial will determine the outcome of these serious charges.
