Aamir Khan's Surprising Demands for Dil Chahta Hai Role
Learned that Aamir Khan stipulated two prerequisites before penning his name for Dil Chahta Hai? Director Farhan Akhtar admits he was left with no other option.
Farhan Akhtar, the brilliant mind behind Dil Chahta Hai, faced a bit of an obstacle when it came to casting one of the film's leading roles. The movie, which kick-started the careers of several actors, initially encountered rejections from numerous prospects. But when Akshaye Khanna finally agreed to the project, hope was restored.
However, when Aamir Khan was approached for the movie, the superstar had two surprising conditions to take the role, as revealed by Farhan Akhtar at the Waves Summit.
"I never thought Aamir would say yes, so I never went to him. I went to him eventually because I had no choice," Farhan confessed with a hint of humor.
Once Aamir agreed to join the film, he made it clear he had a few requirements.
"He said I'll do this film, but I have some conditions. So the dialogues were in English at that time so he said that you get the dialogue draft in Hindi because right now, you've written it in English. I want to know if this humor will work in Hindi. He also said if I like the Hindi draft, I don't want to play Sid, I want to play Aakash," Farhan shared.
It's interesting to note that Aamir was first considered for the role of Sid, but he preferred to play Aakash instead. And, just like that, movie history was made!
Following the meeting with Aamir, Farhan rewrote the film's script in Hindi to cater to the actor's preferences. But presenting this change to Akshaye, who had already agreed to play Aakash, was no small feat.
"I met Akshaye and I told him 'Aamir is really keen to do the film but he wants to do Aakash.' Akshaye responded, 'You came and met me and told me you want me to be Aakash. If you tell me you want me to be Sid, I don't care. I'll do any role, but I want to be in this movie.' I've always been indebted to him for being so gracious," Farhan shared warmly.
