Pope Leo XIV Calls for Peace and Negotiations in Global Conflicts

Pope Leo XIV has made a series of heartfelt appeals for peace and negotiations in various global conflicts, expressing his concern for the innocent victims and leaders who have the power to resolve them.

During his address in St. Peter's Square on July 27, the Pope called for negotiations aimed at securing a future of peace for all peoples. He specifically mentioned his concern for those in southern Syria and Gaza, regions currently embroiled in complex conflicts.

In the Middle East, Pope Leo XIV renewed his call for a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing concern over the severe hunger and continued exposure to violence and death among the civilian population. He urged all parties involved to recognize the inherent dignity of every human person, bestowed by God, and to end actions that violate it.

The conflicts in Gaza involve Israel, which pursues a strategy of dividing Syria and supporting separatist regimes, the Syrian government in Damascus resisting this fragmentation, various jihadist groups and Islamist rebels in Syria, and Palestinian groups in Gaza. These conflicts are influenced by regional actors and international powers.

In a separate appeal, Pope Leo XIV asked for dialogue and reconciliation to be sought in the conflicts between Thailand and Cambodia. The clashes along a disputed border resulted in at least 32 deaths, including civilians, and displaced over 200,000 people.

The Pope expressed prayers for those affected by the clashes and prayed to Mary, the "Queen of Peace," to protect the innocent victims. However, he did not specify which conflicts he was referring to in his prayers.

Pope Leo XIV also expressed his closeness to all those who are suffering due to conflict and violence throughout the world. He stated that anything jeopardizing peace must be rejected and that the time for negotiations to start is now.

In conclusion, Pope Leo XIV's appeals serve as a reminder of the urgent need for peace and dialogue in conflict-ridden regions across the globe. His calls for negotiations and respect for human dignity offer a beacon of hope for those affected by violence and conflict.
