Leader of the Nation calls upon spiritual figures to intensify conversation between cultures and faiths
President Tokayev Calls for Global "Peace Movement" at UN Congress
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has called for a global "Peace Movement" under the auspices of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, with religious hierarchs serving as its moral core.
In a speech delivered at the United Nations General Assembly, Tokayev expressed gratitude to the member states for supporting Kazakhstan's proposal for a UN Regional Centre for Sustainable Development Goals in Almaty. He went on to cite several global initiatives as examples of religion becoming a powerful unifying force when acted upon together.
Among these initiatives, Tokayev mentioned the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, the Document on Human Fraternity, the Mecca Declaration, the Bahrain Forum, and the Abrahamic Family House in the United Arab Emirates. He emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering intercivilizational exchanges and strengthening trust between people and societies.
Tokayev expressed confidence that religious leaders will prevent the world from descending into chaos and remind politicians of common sense, goodwill, and moral responsibility. He urged that the voice in support of peace should be more insistent, and the Congress is called upon to promote this.
Great hopes are placed on the United Nations as an indispensable global platform. Tokayev presented Kazakhstan's vision for strengthening interreligious and intercultural dialogue, stressing the need to engage spiritual diplomacy at international and regional organizations.
To further strengthen the role of regional structures, Tokayev highlighted the importance of strengthening the CIS, OIC, OSCE, SCO, CIS, ASEAN, and the Arab League. He believes that these organizations can play a crucial role in promoting peace, unity, and cooperation among nations.
The "Peace Movement" aims to end violence and find peaceful solutions, based on universal human values. Tokayev's address was reported by ElordaInfo.kz, citing Akorda. The movement has the potential to unite believers, politicians, international organizations, experts, and youth in a shared commitment to peace and unity.
The idea of the "peace movement" under the umbrella of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions was officially announced by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow. The Bahrain Forum and the Abrahamic Family House in the United Arab Emirates are also initiatives that demonstrate the power of religion in unifying people.
With these initiatives, Tokayev hopes to create a world where religion is not a source of division, but a powerful unifying force for peace and unity.
