Breaking: Leaders of Revolutionary Guards and Atomic Scientists Dead in Israeli Attack
Leader of Revolutionary Guards perished in assault
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
In an unexpected turn of events, the Israeli assault on Iran's Revolutionary Guards headquarters has resulted in major casualties. Notably, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards, General Major Hussein Salami, was killed. As per reports from Tasnim, a renowned news agency affiliated with the Iranian elite forces, Salami perished in the attack on the headquarters' supreme command[2].
It appeared that Salami was one of the most influential figures in the Islamic Republic until his demise. Additionally, Israeli security sources suggest that Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces, was "neutralized" in the attack. State-run Iranian television confirmed Bagheri's death in the morning[3]. Earlier reports from the state news agency Irna indicated that Bagheri had survived the attack unscathed in a command center[3].
Amidst the chaos, two other well-known atomic scientists lost their lives. Details indicate that Fereydoon Abbasi, a former head of the Iranian nuclear program, and Ahmad Reza Zolfaghari, a nuclear engineering professor at Shahid Beheshti University, were among the casualties[1][4]. Furthermore, Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, a professor of physics and former supervisor of the Amad Project, another key figure in Iran's nuclear program, might also have been targeted in the attack[1].
As the dust settles, the extent and intent of Israel's attack become clearer. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli attacks were aimed at the uranium enrichment facility in Natanz and scientists associated with it[4]. It appears that Israel has a history of targeting military and nuclear facilities in Iran, with over 50 such attacks claimed by the country[5]. Moreover, the US news site Axios reveals that parallel to these air force operations, Israel's Mossad intelligence agency has been conducting covert sabotage missions in Iran[5].
