In a significant turn of events, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akhter has ordered the jailing of two political leaders over alleged anti-government protests.

The first individual, SM Ashraful Alam Askar, the head of the Bangla Department at Tejgaon College and acting president of Gazipur's Kashimpur Thana Awami League, was arrested yesterday from Dhaka's Farmgate area. He was produced before the court today and Md Shariful Islam, the investigating officer of the case, sought an order to keep him in jail. The order was passed today after rejecting a bail petition for Askar.

The case against Askar was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act due to his alleged involvement in staging a flash procession in Tejgaon. According to the investigation, Askar has been leading flash processions of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations in Dhaka and financing such programmes.

The second individual, Md Kamruzzaman, a member of Awami League's Agriculture and Cooperatives Sub-Committee, was arrested yesterday from Dhaka's Moghbazar area. A case was filed at Ramna Model Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection to a flash demonstration in Banglamotor. Dhaka court has sent Kamruzzaman to jail over this case.

The procession in Banglamotor took place on 12 September around 2:45pm. It was allegedly led by members of the banned Awami League, Chhatra League, and other affiliated bodies. The participants of the Banglamotor procession allegedly chanted anti-government slogans, spread propaganda, and conspired against the state.

Police reached the spot around 3:15pm and several participants were detained during the procession. It is worth noting that on 7 September around noon, leaders and activists of certain banned organisations brought out a procession with banners in front of 2/A Park Town Restaurant in Monipuripara under Tejgaon Police Station. At one stage of the procession, two crude bombs were detonated.

Police have claimed to have found sufficient evidence during interrogation linking Askar to the incident. They have also arrested an individual named Mirajul Islam in connection to the bomb explosion during a procession.

The procession in Banglamotor led to a case being filed at the local police station, and a subsequent order for the jailing of the two political leaders involved. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to maintain peace and order in the city of Dhaka.
