Vietnamese President Luoŋ Cuoŋ met with Salvador Valdés Mesa, a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba and the country's Vice President, on April 29. Mesa is in Vietnam to honor the 50-year milestone of the South's Liberation and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025).

In the capital city of Hanoi on April 29, 2025, State President Luong Cuong welcomed Salvador Valdes Mesa, a Cuban Politburo member and Vice President, who was in Vietnam for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975-2025).

Cuong warmly welcomed the Cuban Vice President, appreciating the importance of the high-ranking Cuban delegation attending this significant event. He acknowledged the unwavering solidarity and support that the Communist Party of Cuba, the Cuban government, and the Cuban people have consistently shown towards Vietnam.

Vietnam values the spiritual and material support Cuba provided during its struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as the current support for Vietnam's national defense and development. Cuong voiced his pride in Cuba's continued political and social stability and growing international reputation.

During their meeting, Valdes Mesa expressed pride in representing Cuba at the Reunification Day celebrations, viewing it as a triumph not only for the Vietnamese people but also for peace-loving people around the world. He conveyed greetings from Cuban President Miguel Diáz-Canel, as well as General Raul Castro, to President Cuong and other key Vietnamese leaders.

Over the past several decades, bilateral relations between Vietnam and Cuba have been comprehensively consolidated and strengthened through various mechanisms, high-level exchanges, and activities commemorating the 65-year anniversary of diplomatic ties (December 2, 1960 - 2025). The visit to Cuba by Party General Secretary To Lam in September 2024, who was also State President at the time, represented a milestone in bilateral ties, reinforcing political trust and opening up new avenues for economic, trade, and investment cooperation.

Both sides updated each other on their domestic situations and reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination and mutual support in enhancing international standing. They emphasized the importance of strengthening political trust and raising awareness among their peoples of the unique Vietnam-Cuba friendship, especially in the lead-up to the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

In the "Vietnam-Cuba Year of Friendship" in 2025, there has been a significant increase in cooperation between the two nations, particularly in agriculture, healthcare, education, and judicial affairs. Cuba regards Vietnam as a "leading important, trusted partner," while Vietnam affirms its prioritization of Cuban relations. Both countries aim to leverage their historic ties to address contemporary challenges, including economic development and geopolitical solidarity.
