Leader convenes with head of Korea-Vietnam Parliamentary Affiliation Committee

Party General Secretary Tô Lâm's state visit to South Korea from August 10-13, 2025, marked a significant milestone in the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit, which took place in Seoul, highlighted the partnership's remarkable development since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992 and its elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022.

During the visit, Tô Lâm met with Chairman of the Republic of Korea (RoK)-Việt Nam Parliamentary Friendship Group, Ahn Gyu-back. Ahn, in his dual capacity as Defence Minister and Chairman of the RoK-Việt Nam Parliamentary Friendship Group, was congratulated by Tô Lâm on his appointment as Minister of National Defence.

Both leaders agreed to bolster cooperation in politics-diplomacy, defence-security, culture, sports, and to make science and technology a pillar of their partnership. They emphasized the importance of high-level exchanges, increasing cooperation at various levels, and enhancing the role of the two parliamentary friendship groups in overseeing and facilitating legal conditions for the implementation of signed agreements.

Tô Lâm urged the two parliamentary friendship groups to enhance exchanges and cooperation, and to fully leverage their role in this regard. He also called for stronger coordination and mutual support at regional and global inter-parliamentary forums.

Ahn pledged to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation, including exchanges between the two parliamentary friendship groups. He affirmed that the RoK National Assembly and the RoK-Việt Nam Parliamentary Friendship Group stand ready to work closely with Việt Nam to realize development goals in the new era.

Tô Lâm expressed his joy with the sound growth of bilateral ties across all fields. He also stated that Việt Nam wishes to strengthen cooperation with countries, including the RoK, one of its top strategic partners. The longstanding friendly exchanges between the two parliamentary friendship groups have significantly contributed to the comprehensive development of bilateral relations.

In addition, Vietnam welcomed and expressed support for South Korea's efforts to resume inter-Korean dialogue and peace on the Korean Peninsula. The leaders also committed to contributing jointly to regional and global peace, stability, and development, and to strengthening strategic coordination in key areas such as diplomacy, defence, and security.

The current state of the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is very strong, characterized by mutual political trust, extensive cooperation, and a shared vision for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. The leaders further committed to promoting economic cooperation prioritizing quality, efficiency, sustainability, and innovation, enabling Vietnamese enterprises to integrate more deeply into Korean global supply chains. They also agreed to coordinate successfully to organize upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summits in Korea (2025) and Vietnam (2027).

Ahn expressed his admiration for Việt Nam and its people, and his respect for General Võ Nguyên Giáp. The Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is currently robust with a dynamic agenda focused on deepening multi-sector collaboration and elevating ties to a new stage of strategic, practical, and sustainable cooperation.
