Lea Michele vigorously denies persisting speculation about her alleged inability to read.
Lea Michele, known for her role as Rachel Berry in Glee, recently addressed a longstanding rumor about her literacy skills on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast. During the May 7 episode, Michele, 38, took the opportunity to read Jake's cue cards and dismiss the rumor once and for all.
"So for those that think I can't read, let me set the record straight," Michele said. "I was on the debate team, for (expletive) sake! I wrote speeches!"
When questioned if she found the rumor funny, Michele responded, "It depends on the day." She added, "Someone having so little to do in their life and wasting it on me is hilarious, but there are moments where I get frustrated because I'm one of the only women in my whole family to be accepted to college."
Michele's background, rooted in the Bronx, played a significant role in her life. Her family was poor, not very well-educated, and faced numerous challenges. Her parents moved her from the Bronx to New Jersey to ensure she received a better education and had the chance to thrive.
"My parents moved me from the Bronx to New Jersey to give me a chance at a better life," Michele recalled. "Even though my mother's family was from the Bronx, they were extremely poor and not well-educated."
"My parents and family are proud of this," she continued, "so for someone to minimize what I achieved – it's sad and frustrating."
Despite the rumors, Michele remains unfazed and continues to prosper in her career. She shares two children with husband Zandy Reich.
