Le Rideau Vert welcomes the arrival of Benoit McGinnis, their newly-appointed Artistic Director.

NewBloke at the helm of Théâtre du Rideau Vert

Get ready for a fresh wave in Quebec's performing arts scene! Benoit McGinnis, our latest artistic director, has stepped up to steer Théâtre du Rideau Vert. The announcement, made by the institution's board, sent shockwaves through the arts community, as McGinnis prepares to take the reins from Denise Filiatrault.

Bidding adieu to her 21-year tenure, Filiatrault announced her departure in January, leaving big shoes to fill. But rest assured, the good folks at Rideau Vert have found the perfect candidate to cruise the Captains' Quarters—McGinnis, a man lauded for his artistic flair, boldness, and enduring love for the performing arts.

"This tantalizing visionary, swimming in artistic vigor, and swooning over all things stage-worthy, will bring his remarkably contemporary ideas to the Théâtre du Rideau Vert, seasoned with excellence and a dash of audacity," quipped the theatre in an official press statement.

Benoit himself had this to say, "Accepting this role humbly, like a proud peacock, I have nothing but enthusiasm and a profound reverence for this venerable institution. My goal? To create a community of theatre-lovers, where each performance is an enchanting get-together that delves into self-discovery and empathy, and where stories are told as the cornerstone of a rich, human narrative."

What's more, our new leader's vision for Rideau Vert is one of a zestful hub where performances resemble stories-come-to-life, inviting you on a personal journey, and inspiring shared experiences. He declared, "This theatre must carry on its mission to present engaging and popular works, engaging with the world we inhabit today."

In a recent interview with Tout un matin on Radio-Canada, the man behind the sunglasses emphasized his eagerness to embark on a "thrilling new challenge" that's been gnawing at him for quite some time now. "Doing theatre is more than acting. It's about creating opportunities, inviting people, and shaping narratives that matter," he shared.

With McGinnis's appointment, we're on the cusp of an exciting new era for Théâtre du Rideau Vert! Stay tuned for more updates!
