A Georgian man was arrested in Germany over the weekend, following a series of investigations and border checks.

The man, aged 45, was initially stopped at the Hagenwerder border crossing in Goerlitz on Sunday afternoon. His vehicle, a Polish Toyota, was found to be without a valid insurance contract, leading to suspicion of violating the Foreigner's Liability Insurance Act.

Further checks revealed that the man was driving a Skoda without a valid driver's license, compounding his legal issues.

Investigations revealed that the man had changed his surname, possibly to conceal a German arrest warrant and a Polish entry ban. The arrest warrant was issued by the public prosecutor's office in Memmingen, Germany, in April of this year, following a criminal order issued by the local court in Memmingen in early November of the previous year for forgery.

The search results do not identify the name of the lawyer who advised the man to change his name, but no direct information about this specific lawyer is found.

The man was also found to have drugs, likely crystal, in his backpack, leading to a second report for the suspicion of violating the Narcotics Act.

Prior to these events, the local court in Pirmasens had ordered the payment of a fine of 2,000.00 euros for driving without a license a few months ago.

After his arrest, the man was fined 2,940.00 euros, plus 10.00 euros in fines and 82.50 euros in court fees. He was also issued a German entry ban due to the lack of a visa. The man also had a Polish entry ban, which should have prevented him from entering the Schengen area.

The Federal Police ordered further inquiries and have requested that anyone with information related to this case contact the Federal Police Inspectorate Ludwigsdorf Press Spokesman Michael Engler at 03581 - 3626-6110 or [email protected].

The man spent the rest of the day in a detention center. The details of his current status and further legal proceedings are not yet known.
