In a recent development, a federal judge has dismissed President Donald Trump's defamation lawsuit against The New York Times. The ruling was issued by Judge Steven D. Merryday of the US District Court for the Middle District of Florida.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this week, was considered meritless by numerous legal experts. The judge himself described the original suit as a 'public forum for vituperation and invective' or 'a megaphone for public relations.' The lawsuit did not follow federal rules for filing civil complaints and was asserted to be rambling, spanning 85 pages.

In response to the judge's ruling, Trump's team has been given a month to refile the lawsuit, with the refiled complaint not exceeding 40 pages according to the judge's ruling. The president is represented by attorney Joe Tacopina in this case.

The New York Times, however, did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the lawsuit. Meanwhile, several legal experts argue that Trump's lawsuit is more of a PR stunt than a serious case.

In a statement at an Axios event, New York Times executive editor Joe Kahn stated that Trump is 'wrong on the facts' and 'wrong on the law' regarding defamation. He also asserted that the president is 'wrong on the facts' regarding the allegations made in the lawsuit.

Despite the rejection, Trump has shown determination, with Kahn stating, 'We'll fight it, and we'll win.' The lawsuit filed by Trump is seeking $15 billion in damages.

This is not the first time Trump has taken legal action against media outlets. In 2019, he sued CNN for defamation, but the case was dismissed. The future of this latest lawsuit remains uncertain, with Trump's team having a month to refile the complaint.
