While Adam Pearce suspended Gunther for his unruly behavior, McAfee didn't hesitate to challenge the world champ to a bout at Backlash, marking his first singles match since WrestleMania two years prior. A victory for McAfee would undoubtedly go down as one of the greatest upsets in WWE history.
But the friction might have originated further back.
