Lawmaker Collins Proposes Moment of Silence in Dáil for Charlie Kirk in Parliament
Michael Collins Calls for Minute's Silence in Dáil in Memory of Charlie Kirk
West Cork TD, Michael Collins, has written a letter to the Ceann Comhairle, expressing his deep concern over the recent killing of American political activist, Charlie Kirk.
In the letter, Collins states that the killing of Kirk is a stark reminder of the dangers of violence in political life. He emphasises the importance of remembering all victims of gun violence and innocent victims of violence worldwide.
Kirk, who was co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University while speaking at an event.
Collins believes that political differences should be settled through words, not bloodshed. He expresses his views about the killing of Kirk, stating that there should be no place for intimidation or violence in public discourse.
The West Cork TD also requests a minute's silence in the Dáil this afternoon in memory of Charlie Kirk. He suggests that the Dáil should mark the occasion of Kirk's death by remembering all victims of violence.
According to Collins, standing together in silence affirms a shared commitment to peace, respect, and democratic debate. He reiterates that political life should not involve violence, and that it is crucial to uphold these values in the face of such tragedies.
By requesting a minute's silence, Collins hopes to create a moment of reflection and solidarity, not just for Kirk, but for all victims of violence around the world.
