Law enforcement officials refused to intervene in political matters.

It's still a ways till the 2025 national and local elections hit our shores. But with Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Marbil at the helm, he's already making sure every police personnel takes a lick of the non-partisan Kool-Aid and keeps their political opinions tucked away until their personal time.

In one of his statements, Marbil underlined the core mission of the PNP during elections—ensuring public safety and upholding political neutrality to protect democracy and steer clear of personal political interests.

He didn't shy away from addressing the growing concern among the public over cases of partisan behavior from some uniformed personnel.

Marbil left no room for ambiguity, stating that the PNP won't brook any political bias within its ranks. The uniform they don puts public service first—not any political campaign or candidacy, as he put it.

"Let me be crystal clear: the PNP won't tolerate any political partisanship whatsoever. Our uniform symbolizes public service—not political promotions," Marbil stated emphatically.

"Our communities look to us to provide them with a safe and secure environment for their voices to be heard in the elections. That's our sacred duty," he added.

High-ranking officials within the PNP have been urged to actively monitor their personnel and report any signs of toeing the political line.

"Our responsibility as officers doesn't end with deployment. We're expected to maintain the non-partisan mandate of the PNP at all times. Our integrity as an institution depends on our collective ability to refrain from getting involved in politics. We must never let personal or professional ties cloud our impartiality," Marbil emphasized.

Marbil also called on the public to stay vigilant in safeguarding democracy and dedicating themselves to ensuring a transparent, peaceful, and honest election process.

Those who violate these guidelines can expect to face administrative and disciplinary action, including dismissal from service, as per the Civil Service Commission's rules. The PNP will make sure that all personnel adhere to these guidelines without compromise across all units nationwide.

By obeying these rules and regulations, the PNP aims to preserve its impartiality and professionalism during elections, remaining focused on public safety and neutrality rather than succumbing to political interests.
