Law Enforcement Officials Raid IPOB Secret Bases, Dismantle ESN Militants
Imo State Police Dislodge IPOB/ESN Hideouts, Recover Arms and Ammunition
Security forces in Imo State have successfully dislodged militant hideouts linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Njaba Local Government Area, specifically in Ubaa, Umuaka.
The operation, conducted on August 18, 2025, was based on intelligence from arrested suspects and led to a gun duel in which militants sustained gunshot injuries but fled the scene.
The operation, led by ACP Odeyeyiwa Olademeji, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Department of Operations (DOPS), was carried out in collaboration with other security agencies. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the police was also involved in the operation.
During the operation, one AK-47 rifle, three AK-47 magazines, 40 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 60 rounds of live General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, two pump action guns, 582 live cartridges, two Biafra flags and one Point of Sale (POS) machine were recovered.
The suspects who led operatives to the hideouts were Uchenna Opara and Ozioma Ihedoro, who were earlier arrested. The key commanders identified as Asari and Spare Key remain at large, and ongoing efforts are being made to track them down.
No further details about the casualties or the status of the commanders Asari and Spare Key have been provided. The authorities have urged the public to be vigilant and report suspicious persons or anyone with gunshot wounds.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to public safety and have requested cooperation from citizens. They have pledged to continue their efforts to apprehend the fleeing IPOB/ESN members and maintain peace in the region.
