Law enforcement officials attend a Bundesliga football game between Hamburg SV and FC St. Pauli in Hamburg
The Bundespolizei, Germany's federal police force, successfully ensured a peaceful and secure environment for fans at the derby between Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli on August 29, 2025.
Over 57,000 spectators filled the Volksparkstadion, with around 20,600 fans of both clubs using public transportation. The Federal Police's balanced concept was put into action, aiming to prevent any confrontations or mixing of fan groups in the railway police area, particularly during arrival and departure periods.
The deployment was part of a special organisational structure (BAO) for a Bundesliga football match. Around 320 Federal Police personnel were involved, reinforced by the Federal Rapid Deployment Police personnel from the Federal Police Inspectorate Hamburg.
Michael Schuol, President of the Bundespolizeidirektion Hannover, expressed his satisfaction with the peaceful course of events. He stated that there were no significant disruptions during the police deployment and praised the good cooperation with the Hamburg Police and security personnel of DB AG.
Through targeted coordination measures and barrier concepts, potential crowding issues in the railway area, especially at the S-Bahn halt Stellingen, were minimized. The tactical security concept of the Federal Police in the railway police area in Hamburg was also successful, as public transportation ran smoothly during arrival and departure under Federal Police escort and guidance measures.
