Federal Police Probes SpVgg Unterhaching Fans over Alleged Vandalism

The German Federal Police, in partnership with the Bavarian Police, initiated a large-scale control operation at Buchloe station on Saturday night, questioning over 100 fans of relegated third-league team SpVgg Unterhaching. The operation follows a series of incidents causing chaos on the team's return from the Toto Cup final against FV Illertissen, during which train equipment was damaged.

The Toto Cup final between regional league team FV Illertissen and relegated SpVgg Unterhaching took place on Saturday evening. On the return journey, around 9 pm in the RE 71 train, a series of damages occurred, with fans reportedly pulling down ceiling panels, adorning windows and cameras with stickers, staining tables, and bending folding tables. The Federal Police stated these findings in an official announcement.

Initial estimates suggest the damage amounts to at least 3,000 euros. Around 10 pm, upon exiting the fans at Buchloe station, there were alleged insults towards the deployed police officers. The Federal and State Police conducted 126 fan checks, securing balaclavas, stickers, tools, and markers from 45 individuals. Measures continued until after 0.30 am before Federal Police officers escorted the fans towards Munich.

The Federal Police is currently conducting trace evidence analysis in the affected train and securing video recordings. Earlier that day, around 30-40 Unterhaching fans had placed stickers in a train between Munich and Memmingen. Due to a large deployment of Federal and State Police officers, the traveling fans, who were still behaving calmly and cooperatively at that point, were removed from the train and escorted to the buses of the rail replacement service. No criminal offenses were detected at that time.

As of now, all persons are listed as witnesses, with the Federal Police carrying out their investigation into joint vandalism. Practical measures should be taken to ensure a peaceful and respectful environment for all sports events, as damaging public property and verbally abusing police officers are unacceptable behaviors.

  1. The general-news about the alleged vandalism by SpVgg Unterhaching fans extends to European leagues, as it's not just limited to the incident at Buchloe station, but also involved their behavior during the Toto Cup final and in another train journey between Munich and Memmingen.
  2. In addition to crime-and-justice matters such as the vandalism case, sports news this week also includes the Toto Cup final between FV Illertissen and relegated SpVgg Unterhaching, which took place in regional leagues.
  3. Beyond the football field, fans of SpVgg Unterhaching, a relegated third-league team, have found themselves embroiled in sports news for reasons other than their performance, including incidents of vandalism and verbal abuse towards police officers.
