Law Enforcement Disperses Unplanned Gatherings and Road Blocks in Kassel, Once More
In the heart of Kassel on Wednesday, a series of unannounced protest actions by the "Last Generation" group disrupted traffic flow, causing numerous issues for commuters and public transport.
The day's events began around 12:00, as approximately 70 protesters gathered at the intersection of Lutherplatz and blocked traffic from several directions. Despite immediate traffic management measures taken by the North Hesse Police Headquarters, disruptions persisted.
At around 12:40, the police, after repeated requests, were forced to disperse the crowd due to non-compliance with the restrictions imposed. Two individuals who had already received dispersal orders at previous blockade actions were taken into custody.
The swift intervention of the police kept traffic disruptions to a minimum in the city area. However, further blockade actions followed at Werner-Hilpert-Straße, Hoffmann-von-Fallersleben-Straße, the corner of Wolfhager Straße, and Rudolf-Schwander-Straße.
As a result, a total of 50 individuals who participated in the three blockades were issued with administrative offense proceedings for violating the Hessian Freedom of Assembly Act and were given dispersal orders. Public transport was affected several times by the blockade actions, leading to restrictions due to necessary detours.
Despite the challenges, all three streets were passable again by 13:00. Another action took place at the Stern around 14:30, involving 17 people blocking traffic in Kurt-Schumacher-Straße between Untere Königsstraße and Lutherplatz.
