A distressing incident unfolded in Liverpool on Monday evening as a vehicle plowed into a crowd of football fans celebrating their team's championship victory. Authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive and are treating the incident as an isolated case, with a 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area arrested at the scene.

The incident occurred shortly after 6 pm BST on Water Street, during Liverpool Football Club's championship celebration parade. Thousands braved the pouring rain to cheer on their team, with stars like Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk among those present. The joyous occasion was marred when a grey Ford Galaxy reportedly struck the crowd, driving extremely fast, according to eyewitness reports.

Among the initial twenty-seven people taken to the hospital were four children, one with serious injuries. Later reports indicated that the number of hospitalized individuals had risen to fifty, with eleven in a stable condition. A total of 79 people were injured or affected, including those treated at the scene for minor injuries and those who took themselves to hospital for treatment.

Uniformed police quickly responded to the scene and surrounded the vehicle, with several people lying on the ground nearby. Emergency services, including the North West Air Ambulance and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, were also involved in the response. By around 9:30 pm, the scene was cleared.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised the "remarkable bravery" of the police and other emergency services, expressing support and concern for those injured in the tragic incident. Liverpool FC issued a statement expressing their thoughts and prayers with those affected by this serious incident, while their rival, Everton, also expressed their sympathies.

The driver, who has not been identified, is facing seven charges, including dangerous driving. Authorities have discouraged speculation about the circumstances, particularly regarding terrorism. The incident remains under investigation by Merseyside Police.
