The police nabbed one of the three alleged killers of a government official in Basilan province, a top cop announced on Saturday, April 26.
Police Brigadier General Roel Rodolfo, overseeing the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula, opted to keep the 51-year-old suspect's identity under wraps until further investigation and apprehension of the remaining two suspects are complete.
The suspect was taken into custody in the evening of Tuesday, April 22, in Tampalan village, Isabela City, the administrative hub of Basilan province.
"Through keen intelligence work, the Isabela City Police Station managed to nab one of the suspects, positively identified by an eyewitness," Rodolfo shared.
Czarina Mae Mustafa-Malun, head of the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in Basilan province, was slain around 11 a.m. Monday, April 21 in Tabuk village, Isabela City.
The carnage unfolded as three armed intruders stormed the NCIP office and opened fire, fleeing afterward.
The NCIP is a pivotal government agency in the Philippines, tasked with safeguarding the rights and welfare of Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples.
Rodolfo assured that they are relentlessly pursuing the two unaccounted-for suspects with razor-sharp focus, leaving no stone unturned to bring all the perpetrators to justice.
