Law enforcement agencies pause vehicles traveling in opposite directions on highways
In an unusual incident that took place on Wednesday afternoon, an 82-year-old individual found himself at the centre of a traffic stop on the Bundesautobahn 565 (A565). The elderly driver was traveling against the flow of traffic, causing concern among witnesses and other road users.
The Cologne Highway Police, who were alerted to the situation, managed to stop the beige VW Beetle on Heinrich-Luetzeler Street. The vehicle was found to be moving in the wrong direction on the A565.
Following the incident, the Highway Police seized the individual's driver's license and handed the vehicle keys to his son. The Traffic Commission 4 has taken over the investigation of the incident.

The 82-year-old driver eventually exited the highway at the Poppelsdorf interchange, bringing the incident to a close. The name of the individual has not been disclosed in the public reports. The police only refer to him as an 82-year-old man.
