Law enforcement action sparks controversy after telephone contact

In the heart of Baden-Baden city centre, an incident occurred on September 3rd that has since been the subject of investigation by local authorities. A group of teenagers allegedly insulted, chased, and stole a bicycle from two 14-year-olds.

Initially classified as a simple theft and insult, the delay in reporting the incident was due to its initial classification. However, in the following days, as more information emerged, indications of a possible robbery came to light. As a result, the criminal investigation department in Rastatt took over the case.

The police made the case public on September 11th and have since extensively and proactively informed the public about the incident. Yannik Hilger, a police spokesperson, held a press conference on the armed robbery case in Baden-Baden on September 15, 2025. The police report contained a detailed description of the main suspect, including his age, height, build, hair color, clothing, and accent.

The press office of the police headquarters in Offenburg usually does not issue press releases for simple thefts, but given the nature and circumstances of this incident, an exception was made.

The AfD faction in the Baden-Baden city council has accused this editorial office and the police of withholding information about the incident. The AfD claims that the incident was only reported on September 11th. However, the police maintain that the delay in reporting was due to the initial classification of the incident.

The AfD also alleges that the mention of the incident was brief and that the perpetrators were not described. The AfD described the perpetrators as a group of "broken German-speaking youth with a southern appearance," but did not provide further descriptions. It is important to note that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution has classified the AfD state association of Baden-Württemberg as a suspected right-wing extremist case.

Witnesses to the incident that occurred in Lichtentaler Allee and Kaiserallee are requested to provide information to the police at 0781 212820. A brave passerby has come forward and given a statement, helping to drive away the suspects, recover the stolen bicycle, and return it to its rightful owner.

The investigation in the case is still ongoing. The criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation into the robbery in Baden-Baden, and the public is encouraged to cooperate with the authorities in any way possible to ensure the safety and justice for all citizens.
