Lavrov Accuses Germany of Militarization, Threatens 'Determined Response'

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has sparked controversy with his recent remarks, accusing Germany of militarization and renazification. He also threatened a 'determined response' to any aggression against Russia.

Lavrov's comments come as Germany is campaigning for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the session 2027/2028, with central goals of justice, peace, and respect. He personally attacked German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, accusing him of having memory loss regarding Germany's past crimes.

Lavrov suggested that Germany's goal is to subjugate the whole of Europe, similar to Hitler's aim. He cited Germany's increased military spending, acquisition of modern weaponry like AI-controlled combat drones, and expansion of its reservist strength as evidence of militarization. The German government, however, justifies these actions as a response to security concerns and Russia's violation of the NATO airspace.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has responded to Lavrov's accusations. He urged for an expansion of the UN Security Council to better reflect the world's reality, with additional permanent seats for underrepresented regions. He also demanded respect for the goals and principles of the UN Charter, including in relation to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Wadephul called for the UN to return to its founding values and reform.

Tensions remain high between Germany and Russia, with Lavrov's accusations and threats further straining their relationship. Germany maintains its commitment to peace and justice, while Russia continues to defend its actions in Ukraine. The international community awaits further developments as both nations engage in diplomatic manoeuvres at the UN.
