President Donald J. Trump has established a new Task Force to lead federal coordination for the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will be hosted in Los Angeles. The Task Force, officially known as the White House Task Force on the 2028 Summer Olympics, was ordered into existence on August 5, 2025.

The primary purpose of this Task Force is to ensure a secure, well-managed, and economically beneficial event. It will coordinate federal actions to support the successful hosting of the Games, focusing on security, logistics, visa facilitation, and intergovernmental coordination.

Key Functions of the Task Force

  1. Security, Transportation, and Entry/Exit Processes: The Task Force will oversee the planning and execution of these critical aspects of the Games, ensuring a safe and efficient experience for all participants and spectators.
  2. Visa Processing and Credentialing: The Task Force will streamline visa processes for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media, facilitating their participation in the Games.
  3. Collaboration with Partners: The Task Force will work closely with Federal, State, and local partners, including Los Angeles officials, to manage logistics and emergency preparedness in support of the event.
  4. Maximizing Economic and Cultural Benefits: The Task Force will oversee planning and execution to maximize the Games' economic and cultural benefits for the United States.

The Task Force will be chaired by President Trump, with Vice President JD Vance serving as Vice Chair. The Executive Director will handle daily operations. The Task Force will consist of several cabinet members, White House staff, and heads of executive departments, agencies, and offices.

Task Force's Scope of Work

The Task Force will identify legal, logistical, or regulatory barriers that could impede effective Federal support for the Games and recommend timely solutions. It will also coordinate Federal planning and response related to the security, transportation, and entry/exit processes for the 2028 Summer Olympics. The Task Force will support interagency cooperation and information-sharing with State and local partners.

The Task Force will ensure operational readiness across law enforcement, counterterrorism, transportation, and emergency response functions. It will also coordinate with the planning and implementation of visa processing and credentialing programs for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media personnel.

The Task Force will remain active through December 31, 2028, unless extended. Reports regarding each agency's respective planning and activities concerning the Games must be submitted to the Executive Director of the Task Force no later than October 1, 2025.

The establishment of the White House Task Force on the 2028 Summer Olympics is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to emphasize American pride, hospitality, and economic opportunity through sports tourism and international global events. The event, one of the most prominent international sports events of the 21st century, is set to bring together athletes from around the world in a celebration of sportsmanship, competition, and unity.

  1. Despite focusing primarily on ensuring a secure and successful hosting of the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles, the White House Task Force on the 2028 Summer Olympics has also shown interest in sports-betting regulations.
  2. The general news media has reported that the Task Force, chaired by President Trump, is collaborating with war-and-conflicts experts to address potential conflicts that could arise during the Games, showing a broader scope of the Task Force's responsibilities.
  3. In addition to its primary functions, policy-and-legislation officials within the Task Force are reviewing and recommending changes to visa policies to ensure smooth entry for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media.
  4. The Task Force, while dedicated to the hosting of the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games, has also shown keen interest in leveraging the event for general news coverage and promoting a positive image of the United States, particularly in the realm of sports, politics, and general news.
