Latvian military undergoing exercise in Estonia
Latvian and Estonian Forces Conduct Joint Military Exercise "Orkaan"
The 2nd Vidzeme Brigade of the Latvian National Guard is participating in the international military exercise "Orkaan," which is organized by the Estonian Kaitseliit National Guards. This marks the 17th time that "Orkaan" is taking place.
The purpose of their participation is to challenge and test the capabilities of the Estonian forces. Approximately 200 soldiers and national guardsmen from the 27th infantry and 22nd combat support battalion of the 2nd Vidzeme brigade will participate.
The units of the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade will take their military equipment to Estonia for training during "Orkaan." The commander of the units of the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade of the National Guard participating in the exercise is Lieutenant Colonel Aivars Vitols.
The exercise involves Latvian and Estonian military forces and is a valuable training opportunity for both sides. The Latvian soldiers and guardsmen are prepared to simulate challenging scenarios for the Estonian forces.
Residents are asked to take an understanding attitude towards any minor inconvenience caused by the traffic restrictions and to obey traffic regulations. There may be temporary traffic restrictions on the route: Cēsis-Limbaži-Tūja-Ainaži-Estonian border on December 1 and 3.
The 27th Infantry Battalion of the 2nd Vidzeme Brigade usually exercises during "Orkaan" to celebrate its founding anniversary. National Guard representatives have been participating in "Orkaan" exercises since 2009.
This year, these Latvian soldiers and guardsmen will assume the role of enemy forces during the exercise. The 2nd Vidzeme Brigade, which consists of the 27th infantry and 22nd combat support battalion, is a part of the Latvian National Guard.
The exercise "Orkaan" is organized by the Estonian Volunteer Defense League. This joint exercise is a testament to the strong relationship between Latvia and Estonia and their commitment to maintaining regional security and stability.
