Latvia's hockey team embarks on a voyage to the World Championship in Sweden, boasting a team of 25 players. The announcement was made official by the Latvian Hockey Federation on May 6.

Latvia Announces Their Team for the World Ice Hockey Championship

The Latvian national hockey team is gearing up for the World Championship, and the roster is starting to take shape. The squad, led by captain Kaspars Daugavins, will consist of 25 players, including three goalkeepers, eight defenders, and 14 forwards.

In the defensive line, Oskars Cibulēnskis, Ralfs Freibergs, Roberts Mamčics, Jānis Jaks, Kristaps Zīle, Kristiāns Rubīns, Miks Tumānovs, and Markuss Komuls have been selected. The goalkeeping duties will be shared by Kristers Gudljevskis, Gustavs Dāvis Grigals, and Mareks Mitens.

The championship regulations allow a team to register a maximum of 22 field players and 3 goalkeepers. The remaining vacancies up to the maximum allowed may be filled at any time. An additionally registered player may participate in the match for which he was registered more than two hours before the start of the match. For the first match, a team must register no less than 15 field players and 2 goalkeepers.

The Latvian national team will face a tough group stage, with matches against France on Saturday, May 10, Canada, Slovenia, Sweden, Finland, Slovakia, and Austria. The top four teams in the group will advance to the champions league standings and continue the fight for medals.

Kristaps Zīle and Kristiāns Rubīns have been elected as vice-captains of the team, providing valuable leadership alongside Daugavins. The forwards on the squad include Kaspars Daugavins, Rihards Bukarts, Oskars Batn̄a, Mārtin̄s̄ Dzierkals, Rūdolfs Balcers, Toms Andersons, Dans Locmelis, Eduards Tralmaks, Fēlikss Gavars, Haralds Egle, Martins Lavin̄s̄, Anrī Ravinskis, Gl̄ebs Prohorenkovs, and Filips Buncis.

The Latvian national team is ready to prove their mettle on the international stage. With a strong squad and a determined spirit, they are eager to make their mark at the World Championship.
