Latest Finals Update Introduces Temporary Mode Focusing Primarily on Hammer-Based Combat

In a welcome departure from its more serious multiplayer shooter roots, battle royale game The Finals introduces a limited-time mode dubbed "Heavy Hitters." This new 5v5 slugfest offers chaotic and irrepressible destruction, much like the Red Faction: Guerilla gameplay style.

Reminiscent of the popular platform fighter genre, Heavy Hitters takes place in a floating construction yard arena. All players assume the role of Heavy builds, wielding powerful melee weapons and utilizing jump pads, anti-gravity cubes, and goo grenades. As players sustain damage, their characters become increasingly airborne, with the ultimate consequence of being ejected from the arena.

Described by developer Embark Studios as a platform fighter mode, Heavy Hitters presents the most frenzied and reckless form of gameplay yet seen in The Finals. Moreover, the mode's structure contrasts significantly with the game's existing modes, focusing on slamming opponents rather than stealth and tactics.

Apart from this destructive twist, the update introduces tiger-themed cosmetics, such as a tail and striped fingernails, as well as balance adjustments, particularly for the KS-23 weapon. Moreover, bug fixes for animations and cosmetics are also featured, ensuring a smoother experience for players.

Heavy Hitters is available now, with no specific timeframe announced for its removal from the game. Given that Season 7 of The Finals is expected to debut in June, it is likely that the mode will remain accessible until then.

Update 6.9 marks another step in The Finals' evolution, blending its unique destructible environments with the fist-to-fist combat mechanics of platform fighters. Exciting gameplay sessions featuring football-sized sledgehammers await those who wish to experience a new flavor of mayhem.
