Latest Developments: Highlighting the most talked-about incidents from the recent Biden-Trump political debate

In the first debate of the 2024 US presidential election, Joe Biden's performance was met with criticism and concerns that have since led to increased calls within the Democratic Party to reconsider his candidacy.

According to reports, Biden appeared visibly tired and struggled to articulate his points during the debate. His son, Hunter Biden, attributed this to extensive travel and the use of Ambien, a medication for short-term sleep issues, just before the event.

The former President, Donald Trump, on the other hand, appeared confident and assertive, capitalising on the opportunity to contrast his plans for handling issues such as the economy, immigration, and foreign policy with Biden's.

The debate format was designed to prevent a shouting match, with microphones muted to discourage interruptions. However, Biden's performance was such that it led many to question his fitness for another term.

Trump took the opportunity to highlight the rise in inflation under Biden's administration, attributing it to poor financial management. He also referenced Hunter Biden's federal gun crime conviction and ongoing tax fraud trial.

In addition, Trump accused Biden of allowing criminals to enter the country through lax immigration policies and of referring to veterans as "a bunch of suckers" and "losers." Biden, in response, accused Trump of owing "billions of dollars" in civil penalties for molesting a woman in public and claimed Trump had sex with a porn star while his wife was pregnant.

The poor debate performance sparked panic within the Democratic Party and backlash against Biden's candidacy. Hunter Biden also criticised prominent Democrats and celebrities for allegedly abandoning Joe Biden in that critical moment.

Despite the health concerns and the debate performance, many Americans still prefer an experienced and 'steady' president like Biden over another term under Trump. However, the increased calls within the Democratic Party to reconsider Biden's candidacy could potentially change the course of the 2024 US presidential election.
