Latest Colleen Hoover Adaptation, "Regretting You," Headlined by a Group of Popular Millennial Actors
In the world of cinema, October 24, 2025, is set to be a significant date with the release of the highly anticipated film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's bestselling 2019 romance novel, "Regretting You". Directed by Josh Boone, known for his poignant work on the adaptation of "The Fault in Our Stars", the film promises to be a moving exploration of love, grief, and healing.
The story unfolds from the dual perspectives of Morgan Grant, a middle-aged woman portrayed by Allison Williams, and her 16-year-old daughter, Clara, played by McKenna Grace. After the tragic death of Morgan's husband and Clara's father, Chris, both mother and daughter embark on a journey of self-discovery and emotional growth, navigating grief, betrayal, and family secrets.
Morgan, who had Clara young and sacrificed her own dreams, grapples with the aftermath of Chris's death. A series of hidden letters reveal a secret affair between Chris and Morgan's sister, causing tension as Morgan struggles to protect Clara from the truth. Clara, on the other hand, feels that her mother is hiding too much.
The film also introduces Jonah, played by Dave Franco, as Morgan's brother-in-law and new love interest following the tragedy. Clara's love interest, Miller, is portrayed by Mason Thames. Notably, Thames and Grace are a couple in real life, adding an authentic chemistry to their on-screen relationship.
In an interview with Have Coffee Need Books, Hoover explained that the story of "Regretting You" is about a mother and daughter dealing with their grief. McKenna Grace, in an interview with Good Morning America, described her character's journey as dealing with anger towards herself and her mother, and growing closer together. Dave Franco expressed excitement for "trying something new" with the project.
"Regretting You" was written by Hoover to bridge the gap between young adult and contemporary romance, making it suitable for mothers to read with their daughters. The film is set to be released in theaters on October 24, 2025.
