Late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is no longer airing on ABC due to controversy surrounding host's engagement with political commentator Charlie Kirk.

In a series of events that have sparked public debate, Jimmy Kimmel's late-night talk show, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', has been indefinitely taken off the air by ABC. This decision was made in response to government threats following comments Kimmel made about the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

During Monday's show, Kimmel criticised the response to Kirk's killing from people on the right, which has drawn ire from conservatives. He said, 'We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.'

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair, Brendan Carr, called for the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's show following these comments. Carr also threatened penalties against ABC and Disney if they failed to take action. The FCC has the power to impose fines and review the licenses of individual broadcasters if the agency believes that they aren't operating in the public interest.

Nexstar Media Group, a major television broadcasting company, has also pulled Kimmel's program from affiliates over concerns about his comments. Nexstar's president of the broadcasting division, Andrew Alford, stated that Kimmel's comments about the death of Kirk are offensive and insensitive.

Former US President Donald Trump has weighed in on the situation, urging NBC to drop late-night shows featuring Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, in addition to criticising the ratings of Kimmel's show, Fallon's show, and Meyers' show. Trump referred to all three hosts as 'two total losers' and claimed that Kimmel has 'ZERO talent'.

Trump's comments, as well as his support for ABC's decision to cancel Kimmel's show, were posted on Truth Social. Trump also celebrated the cancellation, stating that Kimmel's show had worse ratings than even Stephen Colbert's.

ABC's decision to take Kimmel's show off the air is the latest to raise concerns about press freedom, following Trump's calls for the revocation of licenses and lawsuits over claims of defamation. This incident has sparked a wider discussion about the role of the media in society and the potential consequences of controversial comments.
