Late-night talk show hosted by Jimmy Kimmel put on hold indefinitely due to his comments regarding Charlie Kirk's unfortunate demise, as per ABC's decision.

In a recent turn of events, ABC News has preempted the broadcast of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show, "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", following the host's comments about the assassination of conservative figure, Charlie Kirk.

Jimmy Kimmel, a veteran comedian on ABC News, made remarks about the reaction to Kirk's death on his show. These comments were criticised by many, including FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who labelled them as the "sickest conduct possible". Carr has launched investigations of outlets that have angered President Donald Trump, and this move is seen as the latest effort by the administration to use its power to lean on the media.

Carr's criticism led to a call for local broadcasters to stop airing "Jimmy Kimmel Live!", with further investigations and potential sanctions against the network possible. In response, ABC News has suspended the show until further notice.

Nexstar Communications Group, which operates 23 ABC News affiliates, announced it would pull Kimmel's show starting Wednesday. Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, stated that Kimmel's comments about Kirk's death were offensive and insensitive.

The controversy comes as the president, his administration, and political party have increased their efforts to police speech about Kirk's death. President Trump celebrated ABC News's move on the social media site Truth Social. However, FCC Commissioner Anna Gomez criticised the administration for using government power to suppress lawful expression.

Tyler Robinson, charged with killing Charlie Kirk, was registered as a voter but not affiliated with any political party. His voter status is inactive, meaning he did not vote in two regular general elections.

This is not the first time the media has been under scrutiny by the administration. Carr has previously launched investigations and Trump has sued numerous media organisations for negative coverage.

CBS announced earlier this week that it is canceling Stephen Colbert's show at the end of this season, raising questions about whether his stance on Trump played a role in the decision. There was no immediate comment from Kimmel regarding the suspension of his show.

ABC News has aired Kimmel's late-night show since 2003. The network's statement did not cite a reason for the preempted broadcast. Jimmy Kimmel also made additional comments about the investigation into Kirk's death, mocking Vice President JD Vance and accusing Trump of "fanning the flames".
