Late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert triumphantly displays his Emmy at The Late Show, eliciting a thunderous applause; he acknowledges Jimmy Kimmel for urging Emmy voters to select him for the coveted award.
In a memorable evening at the 2025 Emmys, Stephen Colbert made history as the first presenter to walk out on stage. The moment was significant, according to Emmys producer Jesse Collins, and was met with a huge standing ovation from the audience.
Colbert's night didn't end there, as he also took home the prize for outstanding talk series. His acceptance speech was one of the highlights of the night, as he expressed his love for his country and urged people to stay strong, be brave, and punch a higher floor if confronted with adversity.
The staff behind 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' consists of around 200 people, including writers, stage crew, production staff, talent, segment editors, the band, cold field, control and graphics, research, footage, digital, accounting, legal, wardrobe, makeup, security, maintenance, assistants, interns, and the audience department.
Jimmy Kimmel, a passionate defender of Colbert, erected a billboard at the intersection of Santa Monica Boulevard and La Cienega in West Hollywood, urging Emmy voters to support 'The Late Show with Stephen Colbert' for outstanding talk series instead of his own nominated program.
Colbert personally thanked Kimmel and Jon Stewart during his post-Emmys monologue, which was one of the most viewed videos of the night. He also thanked his entire 'Late Show' staff for their hard work and dedication.
Jimmy Kimmel praised Colbert to Variety in August, calling him a 'sweet man,' 'moral,' 'ethical,' 'the salt of the earth,' 'humble,' 'extremely smart,' and expressing hope for his future work to be 'even more powerful.'
The Emmys took place on September 16, and Colbert received multiple ovations during the night. His win was met with a huge standing ovation, making it a truly unforgettable night for both Colbert and his fans.
