Late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel remains suspended amid threats from the FCC Chair, as the co-hosts of 'The View' remain tight-lipped about the ongoing situation.

In a recent turn of events, Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', has been suspended indefinitely due to his controversial comments about Charlie Kirk and the MAGA gang. This decision was made by the ABC network, following pressure from Nexstar, which operates 32 ABC affiliates.

The suspension has sparked a wave of criticism from celebrities, reporters, and politicians, with former President Barack Obama describing it as Trump's most brazen attack on free speech yet. Obama accused the Trump administration of threatening media companies to silence their dissenting voices.

Meanwhile, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has entered the fray. FCC chairman Brendan Carr has suggested that 'The View' might not qualify as a bonafide news program, implying potential regulatory action against the popular talk show. Carr believes it's worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether 'The View' and some other programs still qualify as bonafide news programs.

If the FCC were to determine that 'The View' is not a bonafide news program, it would be subjected to the equal opportunity rule. This rule requires political candidates and their opponents to be given equal time on air on the network. The suspension of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' has brought the equal opportunity rule into focus, as it is an exception for bonafide news programs.

Carr's comments also suggest that 'The View' might not be exempt from the equal opportunity rule. He has threatened sanctions against ABC, stating, 'These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel or there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.'

Amidst this controversy, the hosts of 'The View' have remained silent for the second day in a row about Jimmy Kimmel's suspension. Some, like Carr, have argued that some late-night shows, including 'The View', are bonafide news programs. However, Carr has also suggested that these shows should be scrutinised to ensure they comply with the equal opportunity rule.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has accused Republicans of censoring people in real time and not believing in free speech, in light of the suspension of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' and the potential regulation of 'The View'. This incident has sparked a broader debate about free speech, censorship, and the role of media in today's political landscape.
