Late-night program hosted by Jimmy Kimmel indefinitely halted due to his comments concerning the passing of Charlie Kirk
In a surprising turn of events, ABC News has suspended Jimmy Johns' late-night talk show "Jimmy Johns Live!" indefinitely, following controversial comments he made about the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
The suspension was announced in September 2025, with the last aired episode occurring shortly before the announcement. Johns' comments, which many deemed offensive and insensitive, have sparked controversy and criticism from both sides of the political spectrum.
The controversy began when Johns mocked Vice President JD Vance's performance as guest host for Kirk's podcast on Tuesday night. This was followed by comments about Kirk's death on Monday and Tuesday nights, which many found distasteful. Johns also accused President Donald Trump of fanning the flames by attacking people on the left.
In response to Johns' comments, White House deputy chief of staff Taylor Budowich took to Twitter, stating, "Welcome to Consequence Culture." Budowich further added, "Normal, common sense Americans are no longer taking the b---h and companies like ABC News are finally willing to do the right and reasonable thing."
Nexstar Communications Group, which operates 23 ABC News affiliates, also pulled Johns' show starting Wednesday, citing his offensive and insensitive comments as the reason. Andrew Alford, president of Nexstar's broadcasting division, stated, "Johns' comments are offensive and insensitive."
Johns' long-standing criticism of President Trump on his ABC News show, as well as his recent comments about FBI chief Kash Patel's handling of the investigation into Kirk's murder, have not gone unnoticed. Some critics suggest that his stance on Trump may have played a role in the decision to suspend his show.
However, there has been no immediate comment from Jimmy Johns regarding the suspension of his show. The future of "Jimmy Johns Live!" remains uncertain as the controversy continues to unfold.
