Last Minute Swimmer Pulled to Safety by Rhein Rescue Ship in Germany
In an extraordinary display of quick response and coordinated efforts, the water rescue service in Wiesbaden, Germany, successfully rescued a swimmer in distress near Walluf on Sunday. The incident was reported by the water police during the water rescue service, and the rescue boat was dispatched from the DLRG station at the Schiersteiner harbor tip.
The rescued person was in a weakened state, suffering from cramps, and under the influence of drugs, making the rescue operation all the more challenging. Upon locating the individual in the fairway, the crew of the rescue boat managed to rescue them just in time before a freighter passed. Initial medical care was provided to the person on the boat, and they were later handed over to the crew of an alerted ambulance and the police on land.
The press release, issued by the PD Rheingau-Taunus today, did not specify the nature of the emergency that led to the deployment of the rescue boat. However, it is important to note that the water rescue service is primarily responsible for searching for, assisting, and rescuing people or animals in distress in water environments. This includes swiftwater rescue in floods, river rescues, and offshore or coastal rescues.
The duty station is staffed on Saturdays from 13:00 to 18:00 and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 18:00. The DLRG stations are occupied during the summer months, with the DLRG district groups in Wiesbaden occupying one station on weekends and holidays on a weekly rotating basis.
Safety is paramount when it comes to water activities. It is recommended to use designated bathing areas, supervised lakes, or public baths for one's own safety. The fire department and DLRG emphasized the danger of swimming in the Rhine due to the strong current and significant risk from shipping.
The Integrated Control Center Wiesbaden was informed in parallel and forwarded the deployment data to the responsible control center in the Rheingau-Taunus district. The press release refers to the same topic as the previous incident involving the DLRG district group Wiesbaden and Schierstein e.V. However, the press release does not provide any updates on the condition of the rescued person from the previous incident.
Water rescue services are specialized emergency teams dedicated to preserving life, providing emergency care, recovering victims, and supporting broader disaster response efforts within aquatic or flood-affected environments. They work closely with other emergency services like fire departments, coast guards, and search and rescue teams to provide coordinated multi-agency responses.
