"Keep Climate Change Top of Mind" - Savvy Activists Color German City Trees

In several German metropolises, the climate activist collective "Last Generation" has painted evergreens an orange hue. On a chilly morning in Berlin, a significant Christmas tree sitting in front of the Bundesrat near Potsdamer Platz fell prey to these eco-warriors, who splattered the tree with paint using fire extinguishers. Two demonstrators grinned as they filmed and photographed the event.

The Last Generation communicated that a magnificent tree prominently displayed in Leipzig's Mädlerpassage also received an unwelcome paint job. Police cordoned off the area, investigating the climate protest. In Oldenburg, Munich, and Nuremberg, activists were reported to have doused trees in paint as well. Climate activism in Rostock and Kiel was also documented[2].

Last Generation: Don't Forget the Climate Crisis

Pictures captured demonstrators wielding placards emblazoned with "Exhausted into Disaster? Charity is Climate Protection." The group declared that, despite the sparkle of decorations, the warmth of twinkling lights, and the joyous atmosphere, the looming threat of climate change should not be glossed over as the world hurtles toward a future fraught with calamities.

Since the start of 2022, the Last Generation has been attempting to stir up concern for climate protection with street blockades and various protests. Some of their more notable actions included the spraying of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. While numerous probes and trials against members of the group are underway, numerous convictions have already been handed down[1].

While the vibrant orange paint on the Christmas trees in numerous German cities may serve as a stark reminder, the seasonal spirit remains alive and well in Berlin. The iconic tree at the Bundesrat still glows beautifully, providing a picturesque backdrop for traditionally festive activities as Christmas unfolds, representing unity and merriment in the heart of the holiday season.
