Las Vegas' Ambitious Resort-Casino and Baseball Stadium Project Faces Funding Hurdles

Las Vegas, renowned for its lively entertainment scene, is planning a significant development. Bally's Corp. aims to construct a resort-casino, while the Athletics have applied for a stadium. However, the project faces funding challenges and lessons from past projects are crucial.

The planned resort-casino by Bally's Corp. is set to include two hotels with 3,000 rooms, an entertainment venue for 2,500 people, and retail and dining options. It will be located on the site of the former Tropicana casino, adding to the city's growing list of attractions.

However, the project has hit a snag. The Athletics have applied for over $900 million in building permits for their stadium, but there's a $1 billion funding gap for this part alone. Bally's has not provided details on the funding for its resort either, leaving the project's future uncertain.

Adding to the complexity, Athletics owner John Fisher is trying to sell his MLS team, the San Jose Earthquakes, for $600 million. The proceeds would go towards the Las Vegas stadium. But the success of the project hinges on learning from past entertainment project failures.
