LA's Multi-sport Arena Upgrades Its Scoring System to a Fresh Model for the Lakers, Kings, and Sparks
The Crypto.com Arena has received a significant upgrade, thanks to Daktronics, who installed a new center-hung scoreboard. This state-of-the-art LED display system is designed to elevate the fan experience, featuring multiple high-resolution LED screens arranged in a four-sided, center-hung configuration above the arena floor.
The main video display, measuring approximately 27x170.5 feet in circumference, boasts a 3.9mm pixel spacing for ultra-high-definition visuals. This display is capable of variable content zoning, allowing for multiple video feeds and dynamic content to be shown simultaneously.
Accompanying the main display, four underbelly displays, each nearly 14x16.5 feet, are fitted along each side of the bottom display and face the sides and ends of the arena. These displays can show supplemental content to the main display, catering to patrons sitting closer to the floor. One bottom display, measuring 18x18 feet, is installed below the main display on the center-hung structure facing the floor below, with a 2.5mm pixel spacing.
The scoreboard upgrade also includes end wall and ribbon displays provided by Daktronics in 2022. This six-display, 5,500-square-foot configuration forms a cohesive system, with a custom Daktronics control system tying together the new center-hung scoreboard with the previously installed end wall and ribbon displays.
Daktronics’ proprietary control systems, featuring Show Control with Camino and Venus Control Suite, provide a combination of display control software, world-class video processing, data integration, and playback hardware. The addition of Camino to the control system offers a new level of functionality to create dynamic, real-time rendered content never before possible in a Daktronics system.
Lee Zeidman, president of Crypto.com Arena, Peacock Theater, and L.A. LIVE, stated that the scoreboard upgrade complements the numerous additional upgrades and technological advances within the arena. The new scoreboard will be used for concerts, live events, and sports games, enhancing the overall experience for fans attending these events.
The scoreboard installation began on Aug. 1 and concluded on Aug. 14. For more precise details such as dimensions, pixel pitch, screen resolution, or technical details like brightness and refresh rate, consult Daktronics or Crypto.com Arena official announcements or press releases.
