Lars Eidinger has been cast as the villain Brainiac in the upcoming Hollywood film Superman: Man of Tomorrow. The Berlin-based actor will replace Nicholas Hoult, who previously played Lex Luthor in the franchise. The movie is scheduled for a US theatrical release on July 9, 2027.

Director James Gunn revealed Eidinger’s casting on Instagram after a worldwide search for the role. The actor, known for his work in both German and international productions, has appeared in films like Jay Kelly and Everyone Else, as well as TV series such as Babylon Berlin and Tatort.

Eidinger takes over as the film’s main antagonist, following Nicholas Hoult’s portrayal of Lex Luthor in *Superman: Legacy*. The new instalment, *Superman: Man of Tomorrow*, marks his first appearance in the DC Universe as Brainiac.

The film is set to premiere in cinemas across the US in July 2027. Eidinger’s casting introduces a new villain to the Superman series, with Gunn’s announcement confirming the actor’s role after an extensive selection process.
