Largest Tubeless Sealant of 2025: Which Sealant Efficiently Filled the Maximum Hole, as Tested with a Screwdriver?
In the ever-evolving world of cycling, tubeless tyre systems have become increasingly popular due to their improved puncture resistance and overall performance. We put five of the most popular tubeless tyre sealants to the test to determine which one stands out in 2025.
The testing process involved using a 28mm Schwalbe Pro One tyre on a Zipp 303s rim, puncturing with six screwdrivers of increasing size, and cleaning and patching the tyre between each test. The tyre was then inflated to 70 psi, and the sealant's ability to hold pressure was assessed.
The top performer in our test was the Silca Ultimate Tubeless Sealant. This sealant, launched in early 2022, promises to seal punctures up to 7mm holes at high pressure (70psi) and boasts a longevity of 6+ months. Its unique formula, a proprietary natural and synthetic latex blend with carbon fiber strands, provides enhanced sealing power. The sealant was the stand-out performer in the test, sealing up to a 7mm hole at 70 psi with some effort.
Muc-Off No Puncture Hassle Tyre Sealant, another strong contender, works in much the same way as Silca, with long-stranded particles that boost sealing performance. It sealed up to a 6mm hole at 70 psi, but failed at 30 psi when tested for gravel or wide road (35mm +).
Effetto Mariposa's Végétalex Tyre Sealant is the most eco-friendly sealant in our test, being biodegradable and plastic-free. It has a thicker consistency that could give it impressive claimed longevity. However, it only managed to seal punctures up to 3mm-sized holes effectively.
Orange Seal Regular Sealant was found to be good for small holes, managing to plug holes up to and including 3mm at 70 psi. Its claimed longevity is significantly less than other sealants tested and its temperature rating is not as low. Despite this, it remains a popular choice, especially among bike shops.
Stans No Tubes Tubeless Tyre Sealant performed exceptionally for sealing in colder temperatures. However, it did not perform well in sealing punctures larger than 3mm at road pressures, despite claiming to seal up to 6mm holes. In cold temperatures, its performance is exceptional, with claims of performance down to -30°F / -34°C.
In summary, the Silca Ultimate Tubeless Sealant leads the market in 2025 for its balance of sealing ability, durability, and ease of use. Muc-Off and Orange Seal offer strong alternatives in budget and sealing performance respectively, and Stan’s No Tubes is preferred for colder climates or broad availability.
Sports performances varied significantly among tubeless tyre sealants tested in 2025. The Silca Ultimate Tubeless Sealant stood out, sealing punctures up to 7mm holes at high pressure and boasting a longevity of 6+ months.
